One of my favorite shows of the year is this wonderful event at Peddler’s Village in the heart of Bucks County, PA. I will be set up on the main green. The show runs both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm and offers an enticing selection of both fine art and contemporary crafts. For more information click HERE

Strawberries

It’s the Strawberry Festival at Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, PA this weekend! I will be set up in my gallery-on-the-go canopy both Saturday and Sunday. The forecast looks great! Oh, and did I mention there will be strawberries?

In this colorful image bellow of a brilliant red flower, I have isolated the stamen with emphasis on the bright yellow anther. This is one of the fun and creative ways I like to work with macro photography. Simple form and strong color can make for a dynamic image. Here I was using a Panasonic G2 with a Lensbaby attachment that allows me to use a Nikon 55mm micro lens.

Founder’s Award Hanging

It was a beautiful day here in Bucks County, PA and so the family headed out to the Scarecrow Festival at Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, PA. While we were there we took it as an opportunity to see my framed print “Three’s Company” hanging in the Golden Plow Inn. This was the piece that won the Founder’s Award at the Peddler’s Village Fine Art and Craft show this past June. The Founder’s Award is a Purchase award and I had been told where the piece would hang. It was nice to see my work hanging prominently in the reception area.

A Hot Day at Peddler’s Village

Yea it was hot and humid today for the first day of the annual Peddler’s Village Fine Art and Contemporary Craft Show. But patrons did come out and support the artists. It was also a hot day for me winning both the Founder’s Award  and Second Place in the Photography Category. This was especially encouraging to me because there are more photographers this year and all are accomplished and talented.

I was very pleased to be awarded the Founder’s Award which is a purchase award for the Jamison Family permanent collection. Their support of the arts is greatly appreciated and so important. I am the first photographer whose work has been selected for this award. That feels good. The image selected for the Founder’s Award was Three’s Company framed to 22″x28″.  The Second Prize in Photography is a much appreciated cash award.

The show continues tomorrow, supposed to be hot again.

Peddler’s Village 2009 – Recap

This year’s show had great weather, such a nice change from last year’s 110 degree heat index temps. I was in a new space near friends, which made it a fun weekend as well. I had several previous patrons come back this year and select new pieces. It was great to see several familiar faces I hadn’t seen in years. Thanks all for your support.

I was pleased to receive a $300 2nd Place in the Photography category at the show. The selection was made by 4 judges with various backgrounds. It is impossible to know how judges will respond to work, but I admit to hanging work different on the day of the judging.

To cap a really nice weekend event, I was set up near the soft pretzel cart and so was in line to receive a couple free braided pretzels that were left at the end of the day on Sunday. Always good to bring home something for my daughter (last show it was a 6-pack of Whoopie Pies).

This Show was Hot Hot Hot

Yea, Peddler’s Village Fine Art and Contemporary Craft Show was hot, not because of a large crowd, but because the temperatures reached mid 90’s both days. Luckily my new space had a nearby shade tree and a nice breeze at times, but otherwise it was a physical challenge. Even with constant water and/or Gatorade, breakdown Sunday evening was a drain. At 8:20 as I drove out of Peddler’s Village, it was still in the low 90’s.

Enough complaining. I did add some new folks to my collector’s list and had a purchase from devoted customers from New Jersey. Thanks to all who came out in the heat and supported me. Plus I was awarded an Honorable Mention this year in the Photography category. The monetary award almost covers the show fee.

It is of course important for me to have people purchase my work (I’m always grateful). Art is a business but being an artist is more than that. Being an artist is an identity and a way of life. Part of that life includes meeting new people, which is something I enjoy. I would like to begin to talk more about these people who purchase my work.

This past weekend I sold pieces to some wonderful folks. The couple from NJ I mentioned have come to Peddler’s Village for years and have acquired a number of my pieces for themselves and as gifts. It is always a pleasure to see them and they are always upbeat and engaging. I also met a woman who graduated from my high school who purchased a couple pieces, one for herself and another as a gift.

I benefit from people sharing their own insights and helpful information. A teacher who I’ve had several sales to came by and after finding one of my hummingbird images, suggested I read Emily Dickinson’s poem 1463. I had a nice conversation with two young ladies that purchased Wall Flowers (below). They told me a secret I can use when visiting Washington DC during cherry blossum time.

Shows are a business, but when things get slow, I can benefit from more conversation than I typically could.

Peddler’s Village Fine Arts and Contemporary Crafts Show

This coming weekend – June 7-8, I will be at Peddler’s Village in Lahaska , PA for this fine outdoor show. I will also be in a new location from all the other years in which I’ve participated. This year I’ll be on the Village Green instead of near the Shady Lamp store. Here’s a link to the show – Peddler’s Village Show.

Tonight I will be at Churchville’s Photography Club in Churchville, PA as juror for a club competition – “Making Art of Family and Friends”. Should be interesting.

I mentioned in a previous post that I have had recent sales of prints for children where the child selects my work and the parents or the child themselves make the purchase. One such image is of pink tulips which was selected by a young girl at the Mayfair (Allentown, PA) event. It is an image I made in a garden in Colonial Williamsburg, VA.
