Breathing the Same Air

I am continuing to prepare for my two-person show at Artists’ Gallery in Lambertville, NJ. I have the honor of exhibiting with artist Norine Kevolic who works in both paint and wood. What is especially exciting to me is that for this show Norine will be hanging landscape paintings for the first time at Artists’ Gallery. I feel that our work speaks to and in informed by a shared response to nature. In fact our postcard for the show presents two rather different works but both made at the same local lake, Lake Galena.

Our show runs from March 8 thru March 31 with an artists’ reception on March 9 from 4-7 pm. The title of the show, Breathing the Same Air, was chosen after I read Norine’s quote for our press release. She stated “My aim is to create a sensuous work in which one feels they are breathing the same air as in the painting”. I knew immediately that Norine and I shared a similar motivation which needed to be reflected in the title of the show.

“Crossroads” A two-person show in Lambertville, NJ

I hung today my part of a two-person show I am doing with painter Richard Harrington. Come by Artists’ Gallery in Lambertville, NJ starting this Friday to see the exhibit, all works are for sale! Better yet, come by this Saturday between 5-8pm for our opening reception to meet us both and have some light refreshment or a glass of wine!

The title of our show is “Crossroads” and consists of works concerned with pathways, byways, roadways, and walkways. Richard’s work is more urban themed while mine of course deals with more natural settings.

I met today with an arts writer from The Times of Trenton to talk about our show for an article that should be out a week from this Friday. The image below is of one of the works I will have in the show. It is an image I made here in Bucks County and speaks to the pathways theme I’ve been developing over time.

Artists’ Gallery and Kalmia Club Garden Tour

Artists Gallery Again a Destination

for Lambertville Garden Lovers

LAMBERTVILLE, NJ —  Fine art photographer Paul Grecian and other artist members of the Artists’ Gallery will again join gardeners and garden lovers this spring in supporting the Kalmia Club’s 15th annual Lambertville Garden Tour on Saturday, June 11, from 10 am to 4 pm. The Gallery, located at 18 Bridge Street in the heart of Lambertville, is an official stop on the tour, if a unique one.

“Clearly, we’re not a garden,” said Gallery spokesperson Laurie Nicholson, “but visitors will find beautifully rendered representations of flora and garden landscapes on display in the Gallery. There’ll be an opportunity to further support Kalmia too, as we’ll be donating 15 percent of the sale of select pieces to the Club. Also, light refreshments will be available to our Kalmia friends and their supporters.”

Art and artists will likely be on display along the tour route as well throughout the day.

“If the weather is good, several of our members plan to be working on site in their own favorite Lambertville garden locations,” said Nicholson.

The self-guided tour begins at the Kalmia Clubhouse, 39 York Street, Lambertville, and showcases a variety of garden types and plants, from eclectic to formal, orchids to cactus and beyond. Net proceeds further the Kalmia Club’s mission and assist with its community outreach and annual scholarship programs. Additional information about Kalmia Club and the Garden Tour may be found at http://www.kalmiaclub.org.

“Love That Art” starts Friday

LOOKING FOR LOVE?

FIND IT THIS MONTH AT ARTISTS’ GALLERY.

They love the spark of inspiration, the thrill of creation, presiding over the union of color and texture and form. You are looking for something more stimulating to do this month than play with the thermostat and suffer through another round of The Bachelor.

You are meant for each other.

The 18 member artists of Lambertville’s Artists’ Gallery invite you, and your Valentine, to take a break from the cold and the mid-winter ennui and warm your hearts in the glow of their latest show.

“This is one of the few times throughout the year when all the member artists’ work is exhibited,” said Gallery spokesperson Laurie Nicholson. “There is no other gallery in the region offering as great a variety of work or as broad a range of talent.” If you haven’t visited us yet, now is the ideal time. All of our artists will have work on exhibit. Anyone can find something to love.”

The Artists’ Gallery group show Love That Art, starts this Friday with an artist reception on Saturday from 4-7 pm.

SOLD – Pastel Sea

I was on duty at the Artists’ Gallery on Saturday.  As one of the partners running this attractive space in Lambertville, NJ, being the manager for the day makes it feel like my gallery. First, I enjoy being around the work of the talented and creative people who accepted my application to join them a little over a year ago. Also though, I enjoy being able to meet the patrons, collectors, and art-lovers who come through our doors.

I can speak about the work of all the Artists’ Gallery artists. There is a vicarious thrill to connecting collectors to the work of any of our artist members. Of course if someone has stopped in front of my work, I am able to speak to them in a personal manner as well.

I have found a slightly different audience at the gallery than at some of the art and fine craft faires in which I participate. As a result, I sometimes hang different work at the gallery. One piece which has been at the gallery for weeks and has received positive comments, sold while I was there this past Saturday.

A Maryland couple purchased the piece. It’s an image I made at dusk on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We talked about the image and what I was trying to convey. We compared our experiences while at the Outer Banks and spoke about the elements of the image that attracted them. It’s the kind of interaction that makes being an artist so personally rewarding at times.

It seemed like many of the visitors to the gallery on Saturday were from out of the area, Lambertville can be like that. In any case, Pastel Sea, which had a finished size of 22×28, is hanging on a different wall now.

Visions of Summer….

This morning, myself and other Artists’ Gallery members, hung our summer show – Visions of Summer. And the press has already contacted us! It took several hours and extensive use of a bubble level, but the show is set and ready for our Opening Reception this Sunday from 2-5pm. If you can’t make the reception, feel free to come by Fri-Sun 11-6pm throughout the month of August.

I’ll be at the gallery all day this Saturday and will also be at the reception on Sunday. Here’s a bit of a sneak peek….

Wild Together – Starts May 7

Preparations are ramping up for the two-person show titled Wild Together consisting of the wonderful watercolors of Beatrice Bork and photography by myself. The exhibit begins May 7 at Artists’ Gallery at 18 Bridge St. in Lambertville, NJ. Our reception will be held May 15th from 5 – 8 pm. Later in the month on May 30, Bea and I will be greeting and conversing with patrons over coffee.

Bea and I have been close friends since we first met at a wildlife art show in New Hope, PA in 1995 and I am very excited to be exhibiting with her at this new venue. I think that anyone who appreciates nature and art will enjoy this opportunity to add new work to their collection.

On the Move

I have been a member of  Artist’s Gallery since last August and have truly enjoyed the experience. Now things get even better as we begin our move from Coryell street to 18 Bridge Street in Lambertville, NJ. Right over the bridge from New Hope, PA, this new location offers easy access and puts us right in the middle of the action. It’s also a really fine looking building!

Starting on March 5, you can come to our new home and see the work of up to 18 talented, professional artists. Our hours are Fri – Sun 11-6 or by appointment. Put this date on your calendar too – March 13 from 5-8pm, it’s our Grand Re-opening. It would be great to see you there!

Frames Hung

AG-EntryThis morning I made it over to Lambertville, NJ to hang five framed pieces at the Artist’s Gallery. This location is a new home for my work and will hold a variety of pieces all year. The gallery is a pleasant environment with good lighting and ample wall space. Works by the various artist members are rotated within the gallery space on a monthly basis. All the gallery rooms are attractive and allow comfortable viewing. The five pieces I am currently offering there are Back Road, Flight Unfurled, Vermont Dream, Nature’s Best, and Downward Facing Dog.

As I become more familiar with the space, I think I will hang work differently. But for now, I am very pleased to be in such a fine space and with a great group of artists. Two of our member artists will have an opening tomorrow evening and I am looking forward to attending.
