Strawberries

It’s the Strawberry Festival at Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, PA this weekend! I will be set up in my gallery-on-the-go canopy both Saturday and Sunday. The forecast looks great! Oh, and did I mention there will be strawberries?

In this colorful image bellow of a brilliant red flower, I have isolated the stamen with emphasis on the bright yellow anther. This is one of the fun and creative ways I like to work with macro photography. Simple form and strong color can make for a dynamic image. Here I was using a Panasonic G2 with a Lensbaby attachment that allows me to use a Nikon 55mm micro lens.

Evidence of Summer Past

I have always thought the dried flower remains of Marsh Rose to be an almost sombre reminder of a previous summer. Really, these remnants of flowers which are so vivid and bright when in bloom, are beautiful in their own right. The dried stems and flower parts of this local Hibiscus are various shades of brown and tan and for me were the perfect foreground for a quite image of the lake on an overcast day. With a little bit of sepia tone and monochromatic noise, the image makes me feel rather nostalgic.

The image made in the field was done with a Panasonic G2 and a Lensbaby adapted Nikon 55mm micro lens in full tilt. This allowed me to render the area of focus as just a slim section of the foreground.

Feeling a bit Blue…….but liking it!

When I came across this amazing  flower at Longwood Gardens, I was immediately taken by the color. I admit to being primarily a warm-tone personality, but the more time I spent with this blue beauty, the more enthralled I became.

I often start my visualization process by studying background possibilities. In this case, I was thinking blue-on-blue with some areas of highlights. Employing a variety of macro image making tools, I worked from angles that made me

appreciate the impact yoga has had on my flexibility. Shallow depth-of-field and longer focal lengths (up to 300mm) were techniques I used to attain the feeling and mood I wanted in the images.

For imagery like this, I use the tools that I am comfortable with, which means using anything that allows me to fulfill my vision. In this case, both Canon and Panasonic cameras and both Canon and Nikon lenses were used with adaptor where needed.
