I’m speaking rather literally here too. Weights are a necessary component to the outdoor exhibiting set-up. Even a well made canopy is vulnerable to high winds. I found this out last year. I have found a product made by Flourish that should go a long way to stabilizing the situation. These are called Great Weights and they hold up to 40 lbs of sand. Each weight is basically a two-chambered vinyl bag that can be filled and then wraps around the canopy legs. I didn’t get 40 lbs into mine, but they are definitely better than my previous system.
This is all part of the creative life. There is the work of making new images. Then the editing process to select which will represent my vision in print form. Selected images must then be developed using Photoshop and printed. The prints need to be mounted, matted and either sealed in protective sleeves or framed. Other jobs include the accounting, both of finances and print editions. There is the ordering of supplies, the unpacking and storage of supplies, finding and applying to shows, updating the mailing list (I’m way behind), and a variety of other assorted duties. It’s quite an array of hats to wear and a never ending struggle to set priorities so that the creative process doesn’t get drowned out. I also try to find a couple hours a day to read about photography and art in general, then work in some weight-training or a short run through the neighborhood to keep fit. Doing shows requires a regular routine of exercise. It’s a heavy load, but there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing.
